Rising to 3,842 meters, the Aiguille du Midi is a rocky outpost of the mighty Mont Blanc massif. A 20-minute ride on the Téléphérique de l'Aiguille du Midi cable car takes you straight to the summit—an effortless way to experience high-altitude air. It is the closest point to Mont Blanc (4,810 meters, the highest peak in the Alps) you can reach without mountaineering.

A View Like No Other

From one of the most stunning and popular viewpoints in the Alps, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the French, Swiss, and Italian Alps—dominated by the majestic Mont Blanc.

Step into the Void

For an extra thrill, try “Step into the Void®”, a glass box that juts out over a 1,000-meter vertical drop. Suspended at 3,842 meters, the fully transparent cube offers a unique, adrenaline-filled experience, surrounded by spectacular alpine views.

A Tribute to Mountaineers

Many famous alpinists have left their mark on the Aiguille du Midi. The Vertical Area, the highest museum in the world, was built to honor their legacy. This multimedia exhibition immerses you in the daring world of mountaineering on the Mont Blanc massif.

Next door, in the Mont Blanc Area, you can watch climbers tackle the challenging ascent and learn about the first Mont Blanc summit attempts. The Stairs Back feature a kind of time tunnel that symbolically guides you toward Mont Blanc.

Also visit the History Area at the cable car’s departure and arrival station. It presents the history and construction of the cable car and displays the powerful machinery that drives it.

Gateway to More Adventures

From the summit, a gondola takes you over the Glacier du Géant to Pointe Helbronner in Italy—an unforgettable journey. The Aiguille du Midi is also the starting point for many high-mountain routes, including the famed Trois-Monts route to the top of Mont Blanc.

Practical Information for Your Visit

Bring warm clothing, sturdy shoes, sunglasses, and sunscreen—temperatures can be extremely cold at 3,842 meters, and UV radiation is intense. For health and safety reasons, children under 3 are not allowed to ascend. Older children may join at your own discretion.

Plan for 2–3 hours to visit (including ascent and descent), though wait times can extend your stay significantly during busy periods.

How to get there

By car:

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc can be reached from Geneva via the A40 (Autoroute Blanche). Follow this via Cluses until shortly after Sallanches. There you change to the N205. After around ten kilometers, take the exit onto the D1506 and after a few hundred meters you have reached Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. You can park your car in the “Grépon” parking lot for a fee, and if you book your ticket online in advance, you can save a lot in some cases.
